The Office Chapter

Hello Everyone. I appreciate you visiting the site and reading my blog; seeing those pretty eyes again is good.

Each time I want to write a blog post, I remember how I paid someone to handle my hosting and domain name and he just ghosted me. It is so annoying. It’s not just someone because that makes it sound like a random person. It’s someone I worked with at my previous workplace. And to think he did this? It hurts me every time. But who am I to think he wouldn’t? I trusted him because we had worked together before, and I didn’t expect him to be an asshole pardon my language. I told my mum about it, and she said, “Nigeria is hard,” but that’s not a good enough reason to take money and not deliver. Trust me, it hurts me every time. Feels good to let that off my chest. Now, let’s move on to something else.

For the first time, I experienced a delayed salary, terrible bosses, and a mix of great and not-so-great people. I got a job at an art gallery through a friend who worked there, and it turned out to be the most toxic and inhumane place I have ever worked in. The management or let me say, the owner owed salaries until the middle of the next month but still expected us to keep working and wear happy faces. We could never complain, because the shitty boss would always find a way to blame us for art pieces not selling, and for him getting tired of paying salaries out of his own pocket. But honestly, is it my fault that you priced your art at ridiculous thousands of dollars that people couldn’t afford? That workplace killed my zeal for work. It drained me emotionally, financially, and physically. But even in the midst of that chaos, I was lucky enough to meet a few beautiful souls who have since become wonderful friends and positive influences in my life.

I also encountered some very sketchy people especially the so-called gallery manager he hired at the time. I initially saw her as a big sister and confided in her about some really personal things, hoping she’d understand my situation. But now I realize she was just selfish, fighting only for herself. I even lost a valuable connection because of her which, honestly, I no longer regret. I had a fallout with other colleagues because I stood up for her, asking them to respect her as a manager. In the end, she betrayed me, and that’s when I realized she was only looking out for her own career. For the longest time, I held a grudge against her. But eventually, I healed. I learned I need to stop trusting people too quickly, stop opening up so easily, and that sometimes, it’s okay to be selfish to protect myself first until I truly know someone. And to think I actually enjoyed working there when I started only for everything to suddenly change right before my eyes.

So that’s it for the office chapter thank you all for reading up to this point. I truly appreciate it.

Have you ever worked in a place where salaries were delayed or the environment was toxic? Feel free to share your experience in the comments I’d love to hear from you.
